Some of the most beautiful objects from Denmark's antiquity are made of ceramics. Especially in the Stone Age, beautiful ceramics were produced with beautiful shapes and complicated patterns.
Ceramics is an important tool for archaeologists when they need to date finds. Stone Age ceramics are carefully mapped out based on form and decoration.
The clay vessels can be divided into different styles of shorter or longer duration. Through these styles, we can follow the development of the ceramics and determine how old the different vessels are.
One of the most well-known examples of Stone Age pottery is the clay vessel that was found in 1891 during the clearing of stones from a passage grave on Ordrup Hede, Skarpsalling in Himmerland. This richly decorated vessel was made in the time around 3200 BC.
The place of discovery for Skarp Salling Karret

It stands on a small hilltop, where on the stone is written: "Here was found the Skarpsalling vessel. The most beautiful Stone Age vessels in the Nordic countries."
