In Gærum Plantage, you can experience a rich wildlife with the chance to see both deer and birdlife.
Gærum Plantation is a large privately-owned forest area, primarily consisting of coniferous and beech woods. There are no marked paths in the area, but you can easily find small forest trails and forest roads that will give you a sense of the area's vastness.
In the middle of the plantation, you will find Katsig Mose, which is geologically an ancient glacial lake where peat was once extracted. Since 1985, the area has been protected, and the lake is now only influenced by nature. As a result, there is a rich plant and animal life in the area around Katsig Mose.
Katsig Mose was used for peat cutting by nearby farms. If you continue a few hundred meters north, you will come to an ancient monument called Tingstedet. It is a stone circle with 13 stones placed in a round shape, along with a stone in the center. It is likely a burial site from the Bronze Age, but the site is also believed to have been used later as a meeting place for the region's residents.
Gærum Plantation offers exciting and beautiful nature experiences year-round and can be combined with the hiking routes in Åsted Ådal.
