The picnic shelter Hakkehuset is a charming stop for hikers, offering views and stories about the area's nature and history.
Hakkehuset was built in 1955 in connection with the establishment of the Jellinggård fish farm and has now been restored as a cozy resting place for hikers, for example those hiking along the Ancient Road Hærvejen. There are three picnic tables on the terrace and one inside.
From the terrace, you can enjoy beautiful views of Rugballe Bog, the Grejs Valley, and Lake Fårup. Inside, informational displays tell the story of the area's nature, chalk mining, and the three fish farms from the 1950s – including the “Esbjerghakkeren,” used to prepare feed for trout.
Trail maps guide the way to Hakkehuset from parking areas at Skovdal Kro and Abrahamsens Gård. Toilets are available at both locations.
